NOBS Annual Meeting
Sunday, November 24, 2013, 2-4 p.m.
The Morgan Conservatory
1754 E 47th St, Cleveland, OH 44103
This year’s meeting is particularly interesting, as we will be visiting the Morgan Conservatory, a non-profit educational center devoted to the preservation of handmade papermaking and the book arts. In addition to creating exhibits, the Morgan and its dedicated volunteers harvest the the kozi trees it cultivates on their city property and uses the gleanings to makes beautiful handmade paper. Throughout the year the Morgan also mounts exhibits and offers workshops.
Our visit will be especially worthwhile as both the Abecedaria VI and Monumental Ideas in Miniature Books III Exhibitions will be available for viewing. Abecedaria VI explores the alphabet in artists books with creativity and whimsy. Monumental Ideas in Miniature Books III is an international traveling exhibition of object books curated by local artist and educator, Hui-Chu Ying, professor of art of the University of Akron’s Myers School of Art. It’s comprised of the work of over 100 visual artists who have undertaken the challenge of scaling down thoughts, text, images and materials to create miniatures that delight both the eyes and the hand. Our guide for both will be local artist, Tom Balbo.
A box lunch will be provided by Panera. The cost is $20 per person
