Our Next NOBS Forum will be: Stacie Murry: Godey’s Lady’s Book
Godey’s Lady’s Book was more than just a woman’s fashion magazine. It was published for 68 years from 1830 to 1898 and, although known for its fashion plates illustrating the latest styles, the magazine dealt with women’s issues of the 19th century. It also had a wealth of stories and poems by famous writers. It was edited by a woman, Sarah Josepha Hale, from 1837-1877. We will examine its contents and its influence on American culture of the time. We will also look at some precursors to the magazine. Stacie Murry has worked in the Ingalls Library of The Cleveland Museum of Art for 30 years. She has an M.A. in Art History from CWRU.
